Banbury Town Mayor, Tony Mepham is turning the clock back more than 50 years – to the swinging sixties.
Cllr Mepham and the Mayoress, wife Lesley, will go back in time on Saturday 19 March – 7.30pm to 11pm – at Banbury Town Hall with a night of great music from the fabulous decade.
The evening will raise money for Guide Dogs for the Blind and Radio Horton – the hospital radio station that began life in the sixties.
Radio Horton’s Bob Dainty will be on hand to provide delegates with music and entertainment, together with fellow colleagues from Radio Horton.
Speaking ahead of the party, Bob said: “This is a great opportunity for the locals of Banbury to get together and remember the eclectique music of the sixties. We are very grateful that Banbury Town Council has chosen to support two great local charities, Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and Radio Horton at this event”.
Back then, the place to be on a Saturday night was the Winter Garden where owner Ethel Usher always provided good live music – and booked some of the biggest stars of the time including Tom Jones and the Rolling Stones.
Cllr Mepham said: “Lesley and me remember the Winter Gardens well and we’re following Mrs Usher’s example of providing good live music by bringing 60’s band The Buddies for our big night.
“March 19 will be a chance for people who also remember the great music of the sixties to relive their youth and at the same time raise money for two good causes.”
Tickets cost £15 each, are available from Banbury Town Hall or by calling: (01295) 250340.
