Radio Horton Volunteer, Tom Wilson is the first volunteer of the charity to receive the Beeby Award, in recognition for his work with the station.
Tom received the Beeby Award for the work he does behind the scenes to keep the station running.
Tom devotes great energy and time maintaining, installing and repairing the stations equipment, setting up and presenting outside events, training and researching required actions, such as pursuing DAB licensing and assisting with fundraising. Despite other commitments, Tom brings good humour and hard work to all he does for us.
Chair of Radio Horton, Sam Smette, commented: “We launched the Beeby Award (named in honour of the late Colin Beeby, a long-serving volunteer who dedicated over thirty years to Radio Horton) as we wanted to formally recognise the talent, outstanding contribution, long service or admirable achievements from our volunteers, and how this can inspire, encourage or motivate others”
“It was a pleasure to award the very first Beeby to Tom Wilson. Tom has been involved in Radio Horton since the 1970s, and has played a pivotal role in the evolution of the station over the years, Tom is a real credit to Radio Horton, and is thoroughly deserving of this accolade, and we are extremely appreciative of all he does.”
The Beeby Award is named in tribute of Colin Beeby, who was Radio Horton’s longest serving member before he sadly passed away in September 2021. Colin was involved in Radio Horton for more than thirty years and volunteered as a presenter, hosted Eddie B’s Memory Jogger and served as a Trustee in later years. The Beeby Award aims to highlight volunteers at the station who dedicate their time to keep things running, whether on-air or behind the scenes.
Recipients of the Beeby Award are selected quarterly by the Trustees.
