Radio Horton was one of two nominated charities supported by the annual DeerJam Festival which took place this summer at Ye Olde Reine Deer Inn. A team from Banbury’s hospital radio station compèred and recorded performances over the weekend-long festival from local bands and artists, which were broadcast to patients at the Horton General Hospital.
The station has now been presented with its share of the funds raised from the event – a cheque for £650.
DeerJam was free to the public, and funds were raised through a raffle and collections, kindly organised by the Parsons Street pub. Total funds amounted to £1,300 which was shared equally between Radio Horton and Katharine House Hospice.
Talent showcased included sets from: Gareth Gwyn; Acoustic Journey; Stevie Cooper & Lindsay May; Bushfield Smith; Stuart Layzell; ‘Til Dawn; Neva Mynd; Mississippi Disco, and headlining, The SKAlectrics.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the station, Radio Horton’s Bob Dainty said: “We would like to express our gratitude to the team at Ye Olde Reine Deer and the DeerJam committee for organising another fantastic event and to the generous people of Banbury for donating this money.
“We are extremely grateful to accept this cheque for £650, which will contribute towards running costs and continued expansion into delivering our hospital radio service to patients at the Horton, and to local care homes.”
The pub garden was transformed for the weekend, with staging and lighting erected, and a gazebo which housed an outdoor bar. Ye Olde Reine Deer, an iconic staple in Banbury as Hook Norton Brewery‘s flagship inn, offered two barrels of specially brewed charity ales with all sale proceeds being donated to charity.

The event will take place again next year on 2nd-3rd June, and Radio Horton is delighted to work with the Ye Olde Reine Deer Inn team once more on delivering another fun, live music event.
