Banbury’s Horton General Hospital is one step closer to gaining a vital piece of equipment, thanks to the generosity of the town’s Sainsbury shoppers and volunteers at Radio Horton.
Radio Horton’s annual collection at the Oxford Road superstore last December, raised a total of £613.28. This was significantly up on the previous year’s figure of £502, no mean feat during these difficult economic times. The monies will be split equally between the hospital and the radio station.
A cheque for £310 was presented on Monday this week by a team of Radio Horton volunteers to Senior Staff Nurse Jan Yiannoukos. She confirmed that the money will go towards the purchase of a new hoist for the hospital’s E Ward, which costs around £5,000.
Nurse Yiannoukos said: “On behalf of the hospital I would like to say a huge thank you to Radio Horton for the fundraising you do for us. I would also like to thank the generous people of Banbury. This donation really does help our cause. The new hoist will make such a difference to bed-bound patients as it is a dual purpose piece of equipment, which can lift and weigh patients at the same time.”
Radio Horton Committee Chairman, Graham Rousell, who attended the cheque presentation at the station’s studio, added: “Radio Horton will continue to do all it can to support Banbury’s hospital. We are delighted to present this cheque for such a worthwhile cause and piece of equipment.”
The radio station has been collecting money at Sainsbury’s on behalf of the hospital, for the last 25 years and has now raised a total of £15,012. This, together with monies raised at other events, has enabled the station to donate a grand total of circa £25,000 to the hospital.
