A Lake House resident has been sharing memories of volunteering for many years as a Radio Horton ward visitor.
John Webb met Radio Horton’s Care Home Coordinator Julie Baker at Lake House in Adderbury and got out the photograph album to reminisce.
John volunteered for Radio Horton whilst working as a Health Inspector at Cherwell District Council.
During his time gathering requests for patients on Horton General Hospital wards, he enjoyed working with vinyl records.
John remembers giving fellow volunteer Maria away at her wedding and he showed Julie photographs taken on the day.
Julie shared photographs of Radio Horton’s 60th anniversary celebrations, featuring volunteers who remember John.
John said: “I started ward visiting and taking requests because I wanted to help people, something I still do by litterpicking in Adderbury, which helps keep me fit and connected in the local community.”
Today John enjoys listening to Tommy Steele and recordings of the sound of aircraft, in particular Lancaster planes.
Julie said: “John is remembered as a dedicated and valued member of the Radio Horton team. It was lovely to meet him at Lake House and spend time with him and other residents as part of Radio Horton’s partnership with care homes in Banbury and surrounding villages.”
