Royal recognition for former Radio Horton volunteers

Two former volunteers of Banbury’s hospital radio station were recently invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace to rub shoulders with members of the Royal Family, together with more than 5000 delegates, in recognition for their contribution to the voluntary sector.

Now heard on community radio, Stewart Green and Ian Fleming have built up a combined experience of more than 56 years together in volunteering within the local community.

Stewart and Ian left Radio Horton in 2015 when an exciting opportunity arose to launch a new internet radio station at Banbury United Football Club, Puritans Radio. The new station has grown from strength to strength and the pair were both delighted to receive this accolade. “It was all community minded people who had been nominated. I took Ian [Fleming] with me who was on hospital radio with me and did over 20 years.”,  Green told the Banbury Guardian.

The duo, along with other volunteers of Puritans Radio now help fundraise for many local charitable projects and causes and recently fundraised more than £1,000 for the Katharine House Hospice. Radio Horton send congratulations to Stewart and Ian for their achievements, and service provided to the Banbury community.
