Radio Horton is good for residents in care homes

In addition to our work in the Horton General Hospital, Radio Horton is bringing health and wellbeing radio into the local community.

Why have we extended our service?

Our Care Home Service is establishing relationships with local residential care homes, hospices, and independent living complexes in and around Banbury:

  • To extend the benefits of hospital radio.
We were inspired by Life Care Radio in Devon, which broadcasts to care homes in the Torbay region, and we launched our first service to Glebefields Care Home in Drayton.
  • To improve wellbeing and reduce boredom, isolation and loneliness by providing companionship, entertainment, information and connection to the wider community.
  • To provide a connection to memories. Research undertaken by Age UK has found how music can be powerful for people with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.
  • To support the NHS as it works to reduce the need for patients to stay in hospital for lengthy periods of time, provide care through community services, and support people to age well.
  • To support care staff too. We are hearing how our programming is benefiting staff wellbeing.

At Radio Horton, we have seen the power of radio for ourselves. We teamed up with North Oxfordshire theatre group Voices Across Time to develop ‘Bring Me Sunshine’, a programme designed to promote conversation, social contact and wellbeing through thought provoking content including exercises for body and voice.

Our programming is on air 24/7, all year round, providing a variety of programmes to cater for a wide range of interests.
